It’s such a catchy name that we’re surprised no one’s using it commercially, but these two bottles of Shipwreck Whiskey ($TBA; auction) are actually very rare. They were among eight…Visit Uncrate for the full post.

Documerica was a simple concept. In the 1970s, a newly created Environmental Protection Agency hired a bunch of freelancers to document environmental issues around the country. It wasn’t the first time the government had subsidized photography. A few decades prior, the Farm Security Administration sponsored a similar program to catalog the Great Depression.
But in some ways, it was unprecedented. For one, enthusiasm within the environmental movement, which catalyzed the creation of the EPA, was at its height — which meant interest in (and support for) this kind of program was more palpable than ever.
Plus, Gifford Hampshire, the man who created Documerica, basically gave photographers free rein to shoot whatever they wanted. (Imagine, photographers: Getting paid to hit the road and capture America in your own, personal way.)

I Dig These Posts

  • Question via zarias
Anonymous asked: Wow, have a bad day? Was there any reason why you had to be a total ass to jonathanthomaspage with him saying that he's not confident in telling people his prices and selling himself short? No, let's not address that directly, let's go off on a tangent/rant full of snark. If he wasn't shy before, he is now. It's like telling someone who's in a deep depression to "cheer up" or "just get over it".

This is in reply to this question from yesterday.

Have you been to Jonathan’s web site?

Check it out…. There are 1,156 posts on this Q&A...

lydiawebber asked: I had a meeting with wedding clients recently and the man tore a hole in me because I specified in our contract that I retain the copyright. He doesn't want anything to see the light of day (fine by me) but I don't want HIM to have the copyright either. He compared what I would be doing to someone recording a musician (I record, he's the musician) and then asked why I'm not paying them (OMG). Are we at a standstill? I'm curious about a way forward but will probably drop the client.

Drop them! RED FLAGS everywhere! You’re not going to enjoy that shoot. Some folks just don’t understand copyright and after a brief discussion...
